The venue is extremely family friendly – the pool is open to children between 9am and 6pm and there are swimming lessons available midweek. The restaurant is also flexible for little taste buds.

Having enjoyed a makeover of its own in 2012, Vital Health & Wellbeing Club at Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel now combines leisure and relaxation alongside one another. So in addition to the gym complete with PowerPlate training; in a glass surround overlooking the fountain and the golf course there is a 20-metre pool which hosts aqua fitness classes, plus a sauna, steam room, experience shower, mud rasul and spa lounge where you can have lunch in the comfort of your dressing gown.
Treatments include massages, facials, manicures and pedicures aplenty using Jessica, Elemis, and Bare Minerals products in a series of eight Asian inspired treatment rooms. There is also a relaxation area – a dark, ambient environment characterised by the sound of a small water feature, low lighting, recliners and little silver Buddhas.

Located 20 miles from Chester and Shrewsbury, Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel is modern with the forested driveway providing an appealing starting point. Meanwhile rooms are elegantly appointed – they are spacious, have all the necessary amenities (iron, mini bar, in-bathroom sound system) and long French windows that open onto the verdant view.
As the county is the home of the Shropshire blue cheese, it is only fitting that the ingredient forms the basis of the chef’s speciality – Shropshire Cheese Beignet, while other dishes use locally sourced ingredients, all served in Borders restaurant and the adjoining conservatory, while a bar area is open for informal drinks as well.
